The Clippers are one of the most recent additions to the already
impressive and constantly growing Topshelf Records lineup. The
band, which has its roots in Boston, Massachusetts, is comprised
of just a singer/guitarist and a drummer; however, unlike many of
the punk-inclined rock duos that have arisen in the past few
years, The Clippers shy away from the trendy noise rock aesthetic
for a sound that is entirely clean cut and poppy.

On An Evening With The Clippers, released early in 2011, their
guitar riffs ring out brightly under the pounding drums,
undoubtedly aided by some really stellar production. Despite being
signed to Topshelf, a label known for signing indie emo and
emotive hardcore bands, The Clippers sound especially on this
record is very grounded in the high-energy garage rock sound of
the early 2000s.

An Evening With wastes no time with introductions, and finds the
band blasting through five tracks in less than eight minutes in
total, without any tracks even beginning to approach the two
minute mark themselves. As a result, none of the tracks feel like
fully fleshed out songs, but rather quick, interesting sketches
that have the potential to become great songs. Theyre all catchy,
especially Boku&Chevre and Mulberry Cove, but because theyre
so short, they tend to run together and lose any sense of song for
song identity. Incidentally, this actually works in the bands
favor, and the whole experience of listening to An Evening With
The Clippers is like taking a raucous trip up and down some sort
of pop/punk roller coaster, constantly twisting and turning so as
to keep the riders interested enough to come back.

Ripped straight from the pages of David Blaines secret magic
book, comes the music stylings of The Clippers. Born in September
twenty ten, this two piece outfit came together and began
cheers-ing their way through Allston, MA. Their high energy pop
rock has brought sophistication and sexual feeling back to
basement shows and venues everywhere.
